As a cis straight woman the intention on watching pose was to learn more about the trans community with the excellent creativity mind of Ryan Murphy who is always politically incorrect, many say that glee is his masterpiece but for me is pose. From all of his works this one is flawless, it simply has no flaws or mistakes at all. With an excellent script, you are watching humans wanting to embrace themselves with a whole cruelty around them, and having to survive above that. As a beautiful rose living on the wild and surviving above that.
Pose starts its first season with the ballroom, something that glows and sincerely who is not amazed about the magic the ballroom has. The competition makes it more iconic.
First of all it all starts with rejection, of embracing our true ourselves from our homes. The most of the cast is black so not only they face the discrimination of race, but the discrimination of homosexuality or transexual.
It is truly beautiful as all that is beautiful there is suffering, loneliness.
It is not only how the society treats them but the government as not wanting to invest almost anything on HIV/ AIDS because they are letting them die. The way it makes you more sensible towards the theme of sickness, creating a bond with this characters that are humans and the importance of the representation on tv that the community needs because it wouldn´t have the same impact of sensible matters if the actors were not trans.
All of them have to literally start a new life without their family, because they are dead to their family. And doing what they can to survive.
Being strong is not a choice is something that they have to do so they can survive.
All the things that they have to endure, keeping a kind of faith in themselves that is stronger than a faith someone can have on religion.
It really teaches you on stop being so hard on others when you don´t know their truth, and appreciate way more the trans community.
They become a family and of all the things they have to deal.
Of the many things it taught me it was , What makes a woman?
Because all of them in the show, are women. And many times at the series it shows how they embrace it, and have to repeat them to the harsh society that kick them out of their homes, the ones that prefered to pretend they were dead instead of accepting them as what they truly are. The ones that have killed them, make them feel less, treat them less than a woman. Because what makes a woman is essentially the spirit and then the physic part.
In medicine what of the first things I learned it was that to study the human anatomy we need to learn that what makes us humans is divided in three parts: The Physic, The Psyche and the social part. Sometimes we have a psyche that meets our body but sometimes the psyche belongs in a different body, it is not wrong, looking for our right body.
Maybe the problem is that everybody speaks before educating themselves, they thing that the called moral makes them able to speak about other people´s bodies and no.
Maybe if people focused the criticism on themselves instead of other lives our society would be less terrible.
I truly recommend this tv show that with 3 seasons it changed me (well, it changed me since the first episode), I want to congratulate the minds of this beautiful show. And also to the actresses that were able to give so much in just three season.
It was of course heartbreaking the final episode, also because you have been with this characters watching them grow and deal with so much that they have touched your soul in many different ways.
